Two in a row for Schaffer!
Paul Schaffer made a clean sweep at Springport Motor
Speedway, setting fast time in qualifying, winning the Allstar Shootout,
and winning Race number seven for the USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes Series
presented by Engine Pro.
The first annual Allstar Shootout was the first
race of the night. The drivers drew for their starting positions on the
track in front of the fans at Springport Motor Speedway. Rod Morrison
drew the pole for the event with Paul Schaffer starting second, Scott
Sigman third and Jason LaDuke fourth. Morrison led the first lap with
Schaffer battling on the outside. Schaffer led the second lap while
Morrison slipped high letting Sigman and LaDuke through. Sigman gave it
everything he had to reel in Schaffer but came up short as Schaffer
hauled off the $250 in Allstar Performance Products.
Heat Race action saw Doug Clay pick up his first
win in USST competition, driving away from his outside front row
starting position and never looking back.
As always the thirty lap feature was filled with
action! Doug Clay and Kim Hughes led the field to the green. Clay
slipped extremely high going into the first turn while Kim Hughes took
of to the early lead with Kraig Bontrager on her tailgate. Bontrager and
Hughes battled for the first several laps swapping the lead back and
forth before Bontrager finally got past and pulled away.
While Bontrager stretched his lead to about half a
straight away David Stone was heading the charge to the front with
Sigman LaDuke and Schaffer on his bumper. Stone made it to second before
he slipped and fell victim to the line of Trucks behind him.
The middle part of the race once again saw three
wide racing action for the lead. Bontragers half straight away lead was
now gone and Sigman on the outside and LaDuke on the inside. LaDuke
slipped back running out of room on the inside, giving Paul Schaffer his
shot to make it three wide. This time it would be Sigman on the outside
that would run out of room in the three wide battle, and Paul Schaffer
taking the lead away from Bontrager.
The final ten laps saw Schaffer stretch his lead
while Sigman and LaDuke got around Bontrager. LaDuke made several
attempts to get under Sigman, finally the two traded a little paint down
the backstretch with LaDuke taking the second spot. First time competitor Paul
Thurmond worked his way into the top five. At the finish it was Schaffer
with half a lap lead over LaDuke, Sigman, Bontrager and Thurmond.
The final stop for the USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes
Series presented by Engine Pro will be at Sandusky Speedway during the
Cavalcade of Speed weekend September 25th and 26th. Don't miss what is
sure to be the most exciting weekend of Truck racing, and the crowning
of the 2010 Champion! |
