Schaffer shows how to get it done at M-40

The USST trucks showed M-40 fans how it’s done, going thirty laps green flag all the way!

Allstar fast qualifier went to Paul Schafer with a lap time of 13.761.  Fast Four Dash went to Scott Sigman and the Heat Race went to Jason LaDuke.

In the thirty lap feature Kraig Bontrager started from the pole with Doug Clay on the outside. The two battled for the first lap lead with Bontrager prevailing. Scott Sigman ,starting from mid pack, charged for the lead early passing Kim Hughes and Bontrager  on the same straightaway. Sigman tried checking out on the field, but Paul Schaffer and Jason LaDuke would have none of it working their way through the field. Schaffer started working Sigman high and low, and finally passed Sigman low on lap 11. LaDuke was unable to follow Schaffer through but continued to work Sigman on the top and bottom while Schaffer stretched his lead.

Schaffer sailed to victory lane unchallenged and LaDuke, taking notes from Schaffer, got the job done for second by finally passing Sigman on the bottom.

Rookie holds off the Veterans!

Rookie points leader and Championship contender Scott Sigman took home the Trophy, and a few battle scars, Saturday night at Springport Motor Speedway in Race number five of the USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes Series presented by Engine Pro.

Mother Nature washed out single Truck Qualifying action. The Trucks were split into odd/even heat races to set the lineup for the feature event. Paul Schaffer won the first heat and Ray Clay the second. Since Schaffer turned the faster lap time of the two heat winners he was awarded the Allstar Fast Qualifier Award with a best lap of 16.56.

With the finishing order of the heat races inverted to set the feature lineup, newcomer Kraig Bontrager and Kim Hughes led the field to the start. Bontrager took off to the early lead with Hughes holding her own on the outside lane. After several laps Rod Morrison slipped by Hughes as she started to slip back in the outside lane. Once clear of Hughes, Morrison made a run for the lead on the outside of Bontrager. The two battled side by side for a number of laps. In the meantime the 33 of Schaffer had made it to the front and was on the back bumper of Bontrager. Schaffer, itching to get past the pair of trucks battling side be side in front of him, saw an opening and pushed it three wide coming off turn two. The hole would close up though before Schaffer could get past Bontrager, sending Bontrager spinning.

On the restart, Morrison finally got around Bontrager only to have Sigman and Clay on his back bumper. Sigman wasted no time getting a run under Morrison down the backstretch and pulling along side. Morrison fought back for several laps on the outside of Sigman before finally slipping back to third.

Ray Clay now went to work on Sigman, pulling to the outside. Sigman wasn't giving up without a fight though, as the two battled side by side for several laps. Schaffer finally made it back through the pack and would join the battle for the lead. Sigman continued to lead with Clay to his outside and Schaffer all over his bumper. The three traded paint too many times to count. With the laps winding down, Schaffer made another run to the inside of Sigman, who still had Clay on the outside. The trio battled three wide for over a full lap until Schaffer pulled out to the lead. Once in the lead Schaffer instantly pulled out to a five truck lead while Sigman and Clay were still trading paint behing him.

The race wasn't over yet though. With less than five laps to go, Sigman was still holding off Clay for second when Schaffer started to slip extremely high through the corners. Schaffer, with a right front tire going down, saw his lead evaporate. Sigman and Clay, who have been battling side by side since the halfway mark, both pulled under Schaffer making it three wide for the lead again.

Sigman held off Clay to the checkers, earning the Rookie his second win of the season. Schaffer held on to third with his flat right front tire, followed by David Stone and Kim Hughes.

Two in a Row for Clay!

Ray Clay made it clear that when he shows up he is there to win. Clay took the Allstar fast qualifier award, heat race and feature win Saturday night at Springport Motor Speedway.

Ray Clay set fast time, for the third time this season, with a 16.465 lap. Jason LaDuke won his first Fast Four Dash of the season.

The 30 lap feature saw Scott Sigman take the early lead. Jason LaDuke was making quick work of the field though, with Ray Clay on his bumper. LaDuke quickly made it to the second spot and began working on Sigman. LaDuke looked under Sigman going down the backstretch, and when Sigman moved low to block LaDuke held his ground giving Sigman a nudge going into turn three. Sigman slid high leaving room for LaDuke, Clay and Schaffer to get by.

With LaDuke leading, the top three began to distance themselves from the field. Finally Clay was able to get a run on the inside of LaDuke, the two would battle side by side for the next several laps until Clay would pull ahead with Schaffer on his back bumper.

The pace slowed a little when the first caution came out just after half way when the #3 of Doug Clay spun coming off turn two. On the restart Ray Clay led the field getting a little jump on Schaffer. Schaffer quickly reeled him in though. Again the top three trucks began to distance themselves from the rest of the field.

As the laps wound down, the action picked up. Morrison, Stone and Sigman were now battling side by side for the fourth, fifth and sixth spot and Schaffer was putting the pressure on Clay for the top spot. Schaffer tried high and low to get by Clay, pulling along side several times but couldn't make it stick.

At the checkers it was Ray Clay followed by Schaffer, LaDuke, Morrison and Stone.

The next stop for the USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes Series presented by Engine Pro is back at the Springport Motor Speedway on Saturday July 10th.

Clay wins at the Zoo!

Veteran Ray Clay piloted his number 21 Chevy Silverado to the Engine Pro Winners Circle Sunday June 6th at Kalamazoo Speedway.

Clay started the day off fast by picking up his second Allstar Fast Qualifier Award of 2010 with a lap of 14.203. Paul Schaffer picked up the win in the Fast Four Dash, while Jason LaDuke took home the heat race win.

The 30 lap feature was led to the green by Rod Morrison and Doug Clay. Morrison took to the early lead followed by Stone and LaDuke. Schaffer and Ray Clay were on the move from their 6th and 7th starting spots though. Morrison would hold the lead until lap 10 when Schaffer took the lead with Clay in tow. Anticipation was high, since the last time the two battled for the lead it resulted in the two trucks spinning on the last lap.

Schaffer and Clay battled side by side for several laps swapping the lead at least three times. Finally on lap 22 Ray Clay would pull ahead and never look back.

The race went Caution Flag free, with Ray Clay crossing the stripe in front of Schaffer, LaDuke, Sigman, and Morrison.

The next stop for the USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes Series will be Saturday June 19th at the Springport Motor Speedway.

Schaffer wins in front of full house!

Holland Michigan’s Paul Schaffer piloted his number 33 Goodie’s Factory F-150 to victory lane Saturday night in front of a standing room only crowd at Angola Motor Speedway.

Schaffer started the day off by picking up the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award, making him the second driver to earn a spot in the Allstar Shootout on August 14th at Springport Motor Speedway.

The Fast Four Dash win went to last week’s feature winner and current points leader, Scott Sigman. The Heat Race win went to Paul Schaffer.

The 30 lap feature rolled off with Jason LaDuke on the Pole and Scott Sigman on the outside, for the second race in a row. Sigman edged out LaDuke to lead the first lap. LaDuke battled Sigman for the top spot for several laps before falling in line in second. Back in the pack Schaffer was working traffic and coming through the field, passing Davis for third then LaDuke for second. Schaffer tried high and low to pass Sigman, but got a break when Sigman got loose off turn two. Schaffer battled side by side with Sigman for several laps before finally edging him out and bringing LaDuke with him just before the half way mark.

The Race went caution free until lap 29 when Jim Davis slipped high coming off turn four and spun, collecting Rod Morrison in the process and ending the night for Davis. This set up a green-white-checker finish for the second week in a row. The veteran Schaffer would prove to be too fast, coming to the checkers first followed by LaDuke, Sigman, Morrison, and Doug Clay with his first ever top five finish in a Truck.

The next stop for the USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes Series presented by Engine Pro will be Sunday June 6th at Kalamazoo Speedway. Check out www.USSTGreatLakes.com for more info.

Sigman first to put his name in the record books!

Mason Michigan’s Scott Sigman won the first race of the newly formed USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes Series presented by Engine Pro at Springport Motor Speedway this Saturday.

Qualifying for the Trucks saw some impressive numbers on the clocks, with the top four Trucks well into the 16 second bracket. Veteran West Michigan hot shoe Ray Clay took the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier award with a blistering 16.43 lap, earning him a spot in the “Winner take all” Allstar Shootout for the Trucks on August 14th at Springport Motor Speedway.

The USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes Series presented by Engine Pro is bringing back the tradition of the Fast Four Dash in 2010. Four fastest Trucks, four Laps. Paul Schaffer picked up the win in the Dash, while Rod Morrison won the Heat Race.

The 40 lap feature saw a pair of Dodges lead the field to the green with Kenny Clark on the Pole and Scott Sigman on the outside. The pair ran door to door for the first lap with Sigman edging out Clark to lead the first lap. As Sigman motored to the lead, Paul Schaffer was making a charge to the front from his sixth starting spot. By lap six Schaffer pulled under Sigman and took the lead down the backstretch. Several laps later Jason LaDuke took over second spot with fast qualifier Ray Clay on his bumper.

Schaffer, LaDuke and Clay pulled out to a sizeable lead with the trio turning laps near pole speeds, until caution flew at lap 19 for heavy smoke coming from the rear of LaDukes machine. LaDukes impressive run would be cut short by a faulty O-ring in the rear axle.

The restart put Clay on the back bumper of Schaffer and the battle was on. The two pulled out to a straight away lead, with Clay looking high and low many times but couldn’t seem to find a way around. Schaffer finally slipped coming out of turn two and that was all Clay needed to get by. Schaffer now was all over the back of Clay, making several runs alongside but not able to make it stick. The two took the white flag and Clay slipped going into turn one giving Schaffer one last shot. They drag raced down the backstretch, dead even. Then going into turn three the two made hard contact, sending both Trucks spinning and bringing out the caution.

The wreck left Scott Sigman with the lead for the green-white-checker restart, earning him the Engine Pro Lucky Dog Award. When the green waved it was a whole new battle with excitement going on through the whole field now. Sigman held the lead while Davis and Morrison battled side by side for second down the backstretch. While that was going on, Clay and Schaffer were trying to make it back through the field. At the checkers, though, it was all Scott Sigman followed by Davis, Clay, Morrison and Schaffer.

The next stop for the USST Speed-Pro Great Lakes Series presented by Engine Pro is Saturday May 22nd at Angola Motor Speedway. Go to www.USSTGreatLakes.com for more info.

About Circle Racing Wheels

Circle Racing Wheels has always been known for building a superior product, and this relentless adherence to strict design and quality control standards has made Circle the brand that racers can rely on. In 2005, CRW moved its operation to Fresno CA to join forces with long established wheel manufacturer, Wheel Vintiques. Under the leadership of Mike Stallings, Wheel Vintiques has grown to become one the most highly regarded wheel manufacturers in the country.

Mike Stallings has been involved in racing since childhood. Today, he campaigns both a 360 and 410 winged Sprint Car at local central California tracks, and occasionally runs with the big boys on the World of Outlaws tour. However, the realities of running a business have limited his participation to mostly local events…where he has enjoyed modest success.  From a manufacturing standpoint, Mike’s participation is no doubt a “best of both worlds” situation, as it gives Stallings direct contact with racers and actual hands-on experience with the company’s products – plus he has the flexibility to promptly transfer this input to Circle’s design, engineering and manufacturing operations.

Under the roof of the 43,000 square foot, state of the art facility, CRW builds the most competitive racing wheels on the market today. CRW employees and management are all dedicated individuals who each take personal pride in producing the highest quality race wheels that are on the market today. We look forward to serving you, and providing you with the best wheel values in the industry. Our goal is to earn your business and provide you with the highest level of service.
